Sixth annual One Town, One Book' kicks off Sept. 27

Warwick - The Albert Wisner Public Library, the Greenwood Lake Public Library and the Florida Public Library have selected Erik Larson’s best seller, “Devil in the White City by Erik Larson,” as their selection for the sixth annual “One Town, One Book “program. According to The New York Times, this best seller about the planning of the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair intertwined with accounts of the crimes of serial killer Dr. H.H. Holmes “relentlessly fuses history and entertainment to give this nonfiction book the dramatic effect of a novel.... A dynamic, enveloping book.... It doesn’t hurt that this truth is stranger than fiction.” During the “One Town, One Book” program, residents of the town of Warwick are invited to read the book and then join their neighbors for the series of programs taking place in Florida, Greenwood Lake and Warwick that includes book discussions, movies, and a Victorian Tea. The kick-off will take place on Thursday, Sept. 27, at 7 p.m. at the Italian Villa Restaurant. Professor emeritus Christine Godwin will introduce One Town, One Book 2007 and Devil in the White City over coffee and dessert. You must call the Warwick Library at 986-1047 to sign up. Copies of the book are available for checkout at all three libraries. All programs require registration in advance and are open to residents of the Warwick, Greenwood Lake and Florida school district library patrons.
