WARWICK — For the third year running a group of local artists and makers are creating a Haunted House - with a twist - at the Warwick Valley Community Center on Oct. 19, 20 and 21.
In the summer of 2016 Wickham Works and a group of artists, musicians and local promoters – now called Interactive Noise Collective – began collaborating on an on-going series of concerts at the Community Center: The Doc Fry Sessions.
Word got outThe sessions provide a venue for the next generation of musicians to take to the stage, and a Safe Space where teens and young adults listen to local bands with no alcohol or drugs.
An added draw for the audience is the chance to get their hands dirty making buttons and screen printing show posters and T-shirts.
Word got out and more makers joined the group. A plan was hatched to throw a Haunted House fund raiser for the center and, with the help of teen volunteer performers, the building morphed into a nightmare prom based on Steven King’s "Carrie."
Last year the center was haunted by a Mexican ghost story.
This year’s show will visitors through the labyrinth of an abandoned, top-secret government bunker, Area 990.
All the fun, not so much boo, tooNicknamed "ShockFry," the fund raiser did such a good job scaring youngsters that this year the group is adding a special Monster Mash party in the main hall: All the fun of Halloween, and not so much of the boo, for the younger crowd.
The Haunted House will again showcase the talents of Terry Odell and her Acting Out Theater Company, members of the Interact Club from the high school and middle and high school students from the center’s youth groups.
