Seaton to read at Baby Grand Books on Saturday afternoon
Warwick William Seaton will read from his poetry chapbook “Tourist Snapshots” on Saturday, Jan. 26, at 4 p.m. at Baby Grand Books, 7 West St., Warwick. The event is free. Tourist Snapshots, recently published by CC Marimbo of Berkeley, is an idiosyncratic book of travel poems. Seaton sketches sites he has visited, not specifically to depict the picturesque “other” (here including Morocco, Mexico, Nigeria, and Greece), but rather, as he says, to make of himself “an ambulatory eyeball” and seek a fresh dialectic to question the boundary between seer and seen. Kirpal Gordon, author of “Eros in Sanskrit and Jazz Tales from the Ghost Realms,” says that in “Tourist Snapshots” Seaton acts as “our Hermes at the crossroads, peeling back a signpost’s layers not only to turn our route to safety, but to return us to a profound and abiding sense of mystery.” Seaton is a poet, scholar, critic, and translator. He has produced the Poetry on the Loose Reading series in Middletown for the last fourteen years. A larger volume, “Spoor of Desire: Selected Poems,” is to be published by FootHills Publishing of Kanona, in early spring. Call Seaton at 294-8085 or e-mail him at seaton@frontiernet.net.
