Warwick - There’s plenty of whooping and two-stepping at Sanfordville Elementary as rehearsals have begun for Rogers and Hammerstein’s “Oklahoma! Jr.” More than 80 fourth- and fifth-grade students have been cast in the production and dozens more will work on the set and technical crews. The show will be presented at the Warwick Valley High School auditorium on the evenings of June 15 and 16. This year’s production is directed by Terry Odell, a professional singer who has resided in the area for three years. “The kids are focused, working like a team, and surpassing my expectations,” Odell said. “Junior versions” of Broadway plays are professionally licensed versions which have been tightened for productions by kids younger than high school. They still include full versions of the memorable songs such as “Surrey With the Fringe On Top,” “Oh What a Beautiful Morning,” “The Farmer and the Cowman,” and of course, “Oklahoma.” Last year’s production of Annie Jr. set the bar high, being performed at the high school with great sets, costumes and live band.
