Sugar Loaf — Kings Theatre Company will present the Russian National Ballet, formerly known as the Moscow Festival Ballet, in “Swan Lake” at 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, at the Lycian Centre for the Performing Arts on King’s Highway in Sugar Loaf. The Russian National Ballet was founded in 1989 when Sergei Radchenko, a principal dancer of the Bolshoi Ballet, sought to bring together the highest classical elements of the Bolshoi and Kirov ballets within the framework of classical Russian ballet. Leading dancers from across Russia have forged a new company, under Radchenko’s direction, staging productions of classics such as Giselle, Don Quixote, Paquita and Carmen. Since its inception, the company of 50 dancers has completed two tours of Europe. Arguably one of the most popular ballets ever created, “Swan Lake” was Tchaikovsky’s first ballet score. The story follows the heroic young Prince Siegfried as he labors to free the delicate swan maiden, Odette, from an evil sorcerer’s spell. It is a classic story of good versus evil, of instant attraction, mistaken identity, evil enchantment, and true sacrifice to break a supernatural power. Tickets are $42 for adults and $31.50 for youth 18 and younger. To purchase, call 469-2287 Tuesday through Saturday between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
