Run, walk — every Monday

Chester —The Chester Kiwanis Club is launching a new program, “Kiwanis Run/walk Orange,” designed to get people off the coach and into the fresh air for exercise and camaraderie. The idea began when E.J. Szulwach, a longtime Kiwanian, past-president and lieutenant governor of the club, wanted to help young and old become healthy and fit through a walking or running program. At first, the program will be held once a week. Anyone is welcome to join in the program, which will be held every Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Chester Community Park (Carpenter Field) in Vidala Lane in Chester. Participants will walk or run around an area marked out for one-fifth of a mile. The number of times each person goes around will be tracked — five times means the participant has gone one mile. Participants may walk as many times around in the time allotted as they wish. There is no fee, no awards and the program is noncompetitive. Refreshments of sliced oranges and water will be served. Parents or guardians will have to sign permission forms for children at registration. At least one parent or guardian should stay the hour, or participate in the walk. Participants should wear sneakers and comfortable clothing.
