    Hanukkah, the Jewish Festival of Lights, is celebrated this year from sundown on Tuesday, Dec. 4, to Wednesday, Dec. 12. The following is a sampling of Hanukkah events in the area: • Temple Beth Shalom, 13 Roosevelt Ave., Florida On Sunday, Dec. 2 from 1 to 2:30 p.m., a Hanukkah Card Workshop will be held. Learn to craft handmade Hanukkah cards with Debbie Kittay-Heffler. On Thursday, Dec. 6 at 5 p.m. the Hanukkah story is brought to life through the interactive program, Drum Tales, featuring percussive instruments. The story is set in ancient Israel, the land of the mighty Maccabees, an exciting tale of mystery, miracles, triumph, joy, and a single bottle of olive oil. Attendees must RSVP for this event. Call 651-7817. On Friday, Dec. 7, a Hanukkah Shabbat Community Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. Bring your menorah for a community lighting. Bring a platter of your family’s favorite latke recipe to the table. RSVP suggested. Call 651-7817. On Sunday, Dec. 9 from 10 a.m. to noon, Temple Beth Shalom will hold its Hanukkah Family Fair. Celebration will include games, arts and crafts, singing, storytelling and latke (traditional potato pancakes) munching. Call 651-7817 or visit www.tbsny.org. • Congregation B’nai Torah, 2 Edgemere Avenue, Greenwood Lake On Tuesday, Dec. 4, join the congregation and the Greenwood Lake community in lighting the outdoor menorah outside the Greenwood Lake Ambulance Building on Windermere Avenue. Free dreidels and candy for all. On Friday, Dec. 7, join B’nai Torah at 7 p.m. for Evening Shabbat Services and kindle the Hanukkah candles in the congregation’s menorah, sing your favorite Hanukkah songs followed by a festive Kiddush. Learn to play the dreidel game. • Chabad of Orange County Menorah lighting ceremonies will include singing of Hanukkah songs, dreidels, hot latkes and other traditional treats such as doughnuts, and chocolate gelt.. Menorah lightings: On Tuesday, Dec. 4, at 5:30 p.m. at E.J. McLaughlin Square, corner Routes 208 and 94, in Washingtonville. Special guest will include Village of Washingtonville Mayor Thomas DeVinko. On Thursday, December 6, at 6 p.m., at Chabad’s Monroe Location, 845 Route 17M, Suite 202 (Chase Bank Building). Special guests will include Orange County Executive Edward Diana. After the ceremony, all are invited inside Suite 202 for treats and children’s Hanukkah Arts and Crafts. On Sunday, Dec. 9, at 5:30 p.m., in Goshen’s Village Green (known as Church Park). Special guest will include Village of Goshen Mayor Robert Weinberger. Special feature: spectacular fire juggling show. On Thursday, Dec. 10, at 7 p.m., in Tuxedo, on the lawn of Route 17, near the train station across the entrance of Tuxedo Park. Special guest will include Tuxedo Park Town Supervisor Peter Dolan. Special thanks to Mr. Turner. On Tuesday, Dec. 11, 5 to 8 p.m., Chabad will again host its Hanukkah Bowling party, at Colonial Lanes, 78 Brookside Avenue in Chester.
