Free concert promotes health,wellness, and recovery Montgomery A line-up of musicians who play everything from rock and roll to Celtic to country and folk will give a free concert to raise awareness of community health care in Orange County. The ninth annual Community in Concert will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 3, at Thomas Bull Memorial Park, on Route 416 in Montgomery. Admission to the family-oriented celebration of health and wellness is open to all. The concert is a project of the Joint Membership of Health and Community Agencies, a federation of 21 voluntary health and community organizations, The Orange County Department of Mental Health, and the Orange County Department of Parks. This event will also feature a Health Fair sponsored by Orange Regional Medical Center and the Orange County Department of Health as well as art exhibit by those who receive services from Joint Membership organizations. The performers include the Levon Helm Band, performing traditional delta blues. Helm was elected to the Rock ’n Roll Hall of Fame in 1994, and is the founder of The Band, one of the most influential rock bands of the Woodstock era. George Frayne of the Commander Cody Band, known for his wit and irreverence, often says about himself: “He’s not dead! He’s just living in upstate New York! Rock on Commander! Rock On!” First organized in the mid-60s, the band will play its “spacey countrified rock ’n roll boogie-woogie” at the concert. The band’s classics include hits like “Hot Rod Lincoln” and “Seeds and Stems.” Red Molly, a New York Americana trio, will perform. got its organic start at a late-night jam session during the 2004 Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. Laurie MacAllister, Abbie Gardner and Carolann Solebello were brought together by a love of traditional American music, old gospel, bluegrass, and the old-timey songs of contemporary artists like Gillian Welch and Alison Krauss. Red Molly plays a variety of stringed instruments, and sings tight three-part harmony, creating their distinctive, rootsy sound. Their live performances resonate with warmth, fun, and infectious energy. In April , Red Molly released their debut recording. MacTalla Mór, Gaelic for “great echo,” features bagpipes, piano, vocals, and bodhran in a mix of traditional Celtic, roots rock, calypso, blues and jazz. The Human Beinz, a rock band from Youngstown, Ohio, originally known as The Human Beings, began their career recording covers of songs by Them, Yardbirds, The Who, and Bob Dylan. The group made a soon-to-be-released album titled “Garage Vol. 1,” a tribute to the one-hit wonder groups of the 1960s. Professor “Louie” and Crowmatix’s repertoire consists of original songs and songs by other artists with a strong electric and acoustic musical blend of rock n roll, blues, soul, country and folk. The ensemble’s home base is Woodstock. Local entertainers Radoslav Lorkovic, Evan, John Ebert ,and Charlie Lang will also perform. Food vendors include Schlesinger’s Steakhouse and Blueberry Mountain Ice Cream of Middletown. No alcohol will be served. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair; picnic baskets are welcome. There will be attractions of special interest to children. According to Nolly Climes, president of the Joint Membership of Health and Community Agencies, said the organization’s mission is to provide local residents with a comprehensive and seamless service delivery system for recovery, health, and wellness.
