Sugar Loaf — Kings Theatre Company will present Riders in the Sky at the Lycian Centre for the Performing Arts in Sugar Loaf, at 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 2. One hundred years ago, America’s first ‘favorite cowboy, was born, the small-town son of an itinerant horse trader who would rise from humble roots to international celebrity and enormous wealth in classic rags-to-riches mythos. Riders In The Sky, the modern day standard bearers of the Western music tradition, take this centennial opportunity in celebrating the music and career of Gene Autry. Riders perform all Autry’s hits, from “Tumblin’ Tumbleweeds” to “Ghost Riders in the Sky,” as well as a serving of anecdotes in a “Centennial Salute to Gene Autry!” With nearly 30 years and over 5,000 performances under their collective belt, Riders In The Sky craft music that is firmly grounded in the rich American music traditions of such legendary cowboys singers as Gene Autry, Roy Rogers and the Sons of the Pioneers. Foremost of their achievements are their Grammy albums. “Woody’s Roundup featuring Riders In The Sky” was a ‘companion album’ for the soundtrack of the 1999 Walt Disney/Pixar animated film “Toy Story 2,” which contained their version of “Woody’s Roundup.” The album won the Grammy for Best Musical Album for Children in 2001, an honor the Riders received again two years later for their second Walt Disney Records release, “Monster’s Inc.-Scream Factory Favorites”. This is a show for cowboys and cowgirls of all ages! Tickets to the family-oriented performance are $35 adults and $25 youth (18 years and younger) and can be purchased by calling the Lycian Centre Box Office at 469-2287, between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.
