Revolution Song: The Diverse experience of America's founding in six discordant lives

WARWICK — Best-selling author Russell Shorto will discuss his recent book, "Revolution Song," on Wednesday, Nov. 7, at Albert Wisner Public Library.
This acclaimed narrative history takes us back to the nation's founding to see that people from different backgrounds had vastly different experiences of the Revolution years.
Drawing on diaries, letters and autobiographies of both well known and obscure lives, Shorto resurrects their contrasting voices as they struggle through the social chaos of their day.
The book weaves together stories of an African man who freed himself and his family from slavery, an Iroquois leader trying to assure the survival of his people, a rebellious young woman who abandoned her abusive husband, a certain Mr. Washington admired for his social graces but also harshly criticized, and English and American politicians scrambling for position.
