Quintet to sing jazz and swing on April 19

“Polkadots and Moonbeams,” an a cappella vocal quintet, will present a spring concert of jazz and swing favorites at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, 179 Route 94 in Washingtonville on April 19 at 3 p.m. Admission is a freewill offering to benefit Unitarian Universalist rebuilding fund and St. Anne’s Church. The group, which formed in September 2007, is a quintet comprised of an eclectic group of musicians. Alice Shane, an Alaskan native, is an accomplished jazz pianist and vocalist and is the church’s music minister. Judy Garrett is a pianist, singer and composer and the music minister at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation, formerly of Rock Tavern, which is now being hosted by St. Anne’s after its home was destroyed by fire in 2006. Tom Massey is an executive with Mercedes Benz and sings tenor in St. Anne’s choir. Kathy Lawrence is a classical pianist and singer and has worked extensively as an accompanist for Claudia Cummings. Ken Anderton, the newest member of the group, sings bass at the Dutch Reformed Church in Wallkill. For additional information, call 496-9696.
