Quilters' guild plans auction fundraiser

    Warwick — The Warwick Valley Quilters’ Guild is currently exhibiting small quilts for a silent auction fundraiser. Quilts will be on display and bids will be accepted at Newburgh Free Library at 124 Grand Street, from May 14 through May 29. From there, the quilts will move to Baby Grand Books, 7 West Street, Warwick, where they will be displayed from May 30 through June 9. The approximately 20 quilts range in style from traditional to contemporary and innovative, from appliqué to pieced. Many of the quilt makers represented are award-winning artists who have exhibited and been published nationally. The minimum bid starts at $35 and there will be a book available at both venues for placing silent bids. A reception, final bidding and awarding of quilts will take place on Saturday, June 9, from 3 to 6 p.m., at Baby Grand Books The guild is a non-profit organization with 150 members, from more than forty towns and cities in the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. For twenty-five years the Guild has been active in promoting and maintaining the art of quilt making. In addition to their biennial quilt shows, the guild offers monthly workshops and lectures, and maintains an active outreach program, which includes making caps for cancer patients, baby quilts for day care centers, and walker bags for local nursing homes and rehabilitation centers. In addition, the guild has made quilts for domestic disaster relief programs and lap robes for veterans’ hospitals. Since 2000, with the proceeds of several quilt raffles, the guild has presented over $10,000 in scholarships and grants to students and programs of the textile arts.
