Project Mercury to play twice at winery
Warwick The acoustic rock group Project Mercury will be performing twice in May at the Warwick Valley Winery at 114 Little York Road in Warwick. The first performance will be from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 13. The second performance will be as part of the line-up at the Tribute to Dylan program on Sunday, May 28. This will be the group’s fourth appearance at this annual event. The rest of the lineup includes Gandalf Murphy and the Slambovian Circus of Dreams, and The Kennedys. Project Mercury is an original acoustic rock folk quartet, with singer-songwriter Marian Mastrorilli from Nyack on vocals and guitar, Charlene Donohue from Albany on vocals and violin, Jeanne DaSilva from Queens on cello and bass guitar, and Craig Fox from Port Chester on guitar, dobro and vocals. Mastrorilli and Donohue have been working together for seven and a half years, after finding one another on the internet classifieds. Despite the geographic distance, the group hooks up to play throughout the Hudson Valley and New Jersey, at venues like Warwick Valley Winery, High Falls Cafe and Aroma Thyme Bistro. In April, Hudson Valley Magazine listed the group as one of “Polly’s Picks.” Project Mercury’s music covers many genres, including folk ballads, classic rock, sing-a-long pop, blues and classical, thanks to the string section. Lyrics range from personal to observational to whimsical. The three vocalists take turns on lead, and back each other on harmonies. Admission is $10.
