Program: Eat local, curb climate change
Cornwall-on-Hudson The program “How to Curb Climate Change by Eating Local” will be presented by nationally syndicated columnist Shawn Dell Joyce at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24, at Painter’s Tavern, located at 266 Hudson St. in Cornwall-on-Hudson. Dell Joyce believes one of the most important things people can do to curb climate change is to obtain their food within a 100-mile radius of where they live. She will discuss the importance of supporting sustainable agriculture and small-scale farms. She will show how to get food sources closer to home even in the winter. Dell Joyce will also be signing the new book, “Orange County Bounty: The Local Foods Cookbook,” which includes recipes, local history of Orange County farms, and paintings by Orange County artists. The program is part of the Hudson Highlands Nature Museum’s Evening Speakers Series, which take place on Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. at Painter’s Tavern. Seating is limited, so participants are advised to come early. On Thursday, Jan. 31, the series will present the lecture “The History of Borden Home Farm, Wallkill, New York.” Learn the history of this famous place from Rodney Stuart Thompson, caretaker of the Borden Home Farm for the past 17 years. General admission for programs in the series is $7; museum members pay $4. For directions, visit www.painters-restaurant.com. Reservations are not required.
