Prague Chamber Orchestra travels to Military Academy

    West Point —The Eisenhower Hall Theatre, the Hudson Valley’s premiere performing arts center, will present the Prague Chamber Orchestra and pianist Menahem Pressler at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28. Renowned for its performances without a conductor, the Prague Chamber Orchestra combines a unique blend of full orchestral sound with the intimacy of a chamber ensemble. The group boasts an elite a reputation in which “every musician is a maestro.” The program will include Benjamin Britten’s “Simple Symphony” and Samuel Barber’s haunting “Adagio for Strings,” familiar as the main theme for the movie “Platoon.” The orchestra will then be joined by the internationally acclaimed pianist Menahem Pressler, interpreting Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 27 in B-flat. Pressler is one of the world’s most distinguished and honored musicians, with a career that spans nearly six decades. He has performed with the world’s leading orchestras and has made recital appearances at Carnegie Hall and the Ravinia Festival, in Chicago. His recent honors include the Commandeur dans l’Ordre des Arts et Lettres and a Lifetime Achievement Award from Gramophone Magazine, one of only five granted in the last fifty years.
