Poetry reading and music at Baby Grand Books

    Warwick — The fifth free poetry reading in a fall series at Baby Grand Books at 7 West Street, Warwick, will be on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 4 p.m. Janet Hamill and Shotsie Gorman are the featured poets. Hamill will read accompanied by musicians Jay LoRubbio and Greg Feller. Refreshments will be provided. Poet, painter, and performer Janet Hamill is the author of four books: “Lost Ceilings” (Telephone Books), “Nostalgia of the Infinite” (Ocean View Books), “The Temple” (Telephone Books), and “Troublante” (Oliphant.). Her work has also appeared in anthologies, such as “Living With the Animals,” and in magazines and journals, including “City Lights Review.” In the summer of 1997, Hamill began to add the music of Moving Star, a backing group of musicians named after one of her poems, to her performances. To date they have recorded two full-length CDs. Shotsie Gorman, author of “The Black Marks He Made,” is a tattoo artist and poet known for his dynamic delivery. A spokesman for the art of tattooing, he has appeared television talk shows including those hosted by Geraldo and Sally Jessie Raphael. His poetry has won second place in the Allen Ginsberg National Poetry Competition. Gorman is an artist in many media, creating hand painted tiles and hand tufted carpets as well as mixed media works. He recently held a retrospective of visual and literary work at the Jersey City University Museum Gallery and the Paterson Museum. An open reading is planned for Saturday, Dec. 16 at 4 p.m. Call 986-6165 for information about the readings.
