Poetry at Baby Grand Books this Saturday
Warwick - Donna Reis and Howard Horowitz will read their poetry as part of the second installment of the free fall series at Baby Grand Books on Saturday, Oct. 21, beginning at 4 p.m. Reis co-edited and contributed to the anthology, “Blues for Bill: A Tribute to William Matthews,” The University of Akron Press (2005). She is the author of a non-fiction book, “Seeking Ghosts in the Warwick Valley” and three poetry chapbooks. Her poems have appeared in many anthologies and journals including “Beyond Lament: Poets of the World Bearing Witness to the Holocaust,” Northwestern University Press (1998) and “Chance of a Ghost,” Helicon Nine Editions (2005). She lives in Warwick with her husband, Jim Delahanty. Horowitz has lived in Warwick and taught physical geography at Ramapo College for 25 years. Author of “Close to the Ground,” a book of tree planting poems, he has lately been creating “wordmaps,” large-scale cartographic works that visually integrate geography, history, and poetry. “Manhattan,” originally published in the New York Times, has recently been produced as a poster. Other wordmaps include “The Oregon Coast,” The Wallkill River,” and “The Reading Prong.” Baby Grand Books is located at 7 West St. in Warwick. Piano teacher and composer Stacey Rosen will play a “musical mosaic” of classical, contemporary jazz and world music before the reading and during intermission. The remaining readings in the series are: Nov. 4: Fred Buell and Joan Siegel. Nov. 18: Joel Solonche and Michael Sciarretta. Dec. 2: Shotsie Gorman and Janet Hamill. Refreshments will be served.
