MONROE — The Playhouse at Museum Village continues its 20th season with the Tony Award-winning musical “Thoroughly Modern Millie," with ten performances beginning Friday, Sept. 11.

The winner of six Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Thoroughly Modern Millie was the 2002 season’s most awarded new show on Broadway.

Thoroughly Modern Millie is a high-spirited musical romp that has everyone dancing the Charleston. Taking place in New York City in 1922, the show tells the story of young Millie Dillmount, who has just moved to the city in search of a new life for herself. Millie soon begins to take delight in the flapper lifestyle, but problems arise when she checks into a hotel owned by the leader of a white slavery ring in China. It’s full of intrigue and jazz, during a time when women were entering the workforce and the rules of love and social behavior were changing forever.

Bursting with fun, and a cast of very memorable characters, the show is filled with frisky flappers, dashing leading men, and a dragon-lady villainess that audiences will love to hate, making it a completely feel-good, joyous romp that is perfect family entertainment.

The production is directed by David Mossey with musical direction by Brian Flint and choreography by Mandy Clifford.
