Street painting at Sugar Loaf Smash Sugar Loaf —The Sugar Loaf Smash gives everyone a chance to be a true “street artist.” Members of the community are invited to use the hamlet’s streets and sidewalks as their canvas. Pastels are the medium, and the works produced are temporary. Materials will be provided — participants need only provide their talent and enthusiasm. To ensure their ability to participate, street painters are urged to find a business, individual, or organization to sponsor a ten-foot square, or sponsor a square themselves with family and friends. Squares are $25 each. For children ages 12 and under, who will draw in the “Kids’ Zone,” the cost is $10. All proceeds will benefit the nonprofit Sugar Loaf Community Vision Committee. All donations are tax-deductible. The artwork must be appropriate for public viewing by all ages. No words or symbols intended as advertising may appear in the image. Only chalk pastels in a solid form may be used — no liquid pastels, acrylic paints, or fixatives will be permitted. Squares include space for the sponsor’s name, which the event committee will apply. Artists should allow for this, and sign their artwork at the bottom of the image area. The event committee reserves the right to take and use photographs of all artwork. The work must be finished for judging at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 26, on the day of the Smash. The hours of the street fair are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information or an application, call Nick Zungoli at 469-9382 or e-mail zungoli@optonline.net.
