WARWICK — On Sunday, Aug. 26, at 5 p.m., Pacem in Terris will welcome the return of classical guitarist Charles Mokotoff with a program featuring music from the Baroque and Latin America.
The performance will feature works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Silvius Weiss and Domenico Scarlatti from the Baroque era and Frantz Casseus (Haiti) Augustin Barrios (Paraguay), Edin Solis (Costa Rica) as well as Yuquijiro Yocoh, William Lovelady, Isaac Albeniz and Andrew York.
Mokotoff, a native of Middletown, holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees in guitar performance from Syracuse University and Ithaca College, respectively. He has served on the faculties of numerous colleges and universities in New York and New England as a lecturer in classical guitar and lute. He initiated and ran the Guitar Program at Northeastern University in Boston from 1982 to 1991.
Classical Guitar Magazine om the United Kingdom has called his playing “truly monumental” as well as “engaging and rhapsodic.”
Earlier in his career, Mokotoff was described by the New York Times as “exceptional among debutantes ... a thoughtful, gentlemanly artist, technically fastidious and able to coax a range of sounds from his instrument.”
Mokotoff, severely hard of hearing for a good deal of his life, is an outspoken proponent of making music with hearing loss. For further information, see http://www.charlesmokotoff.com.
