Pacem in Terris holds final concert of the season

Warwick On Sunday, Sept. 16, at 5 p.m., violinist Krista Bennion Feeney along with harpsichordist Andrew Appel, flutist Charles Brink, and cellist Loretta O’Sullivan, returns with Pacem in Terris’ final concert of the season. She will perform with the celebrated Four Nations Ensemble. Founded in 1986, its name was taken from one of France’s most extraordinary institutions: During the 17th and 18th centuries, Louis XIV and Mazarin, in order to establish a centralized bureau for the arts to reflect the glory of Versailles and Paris in this golden age, created the College of Four Nations. “Four Nations” alludes to the four monarchies that were considered legitimate by the French crown: France, Spain, Austria and Savoy.” Bennion Feeney is the acclaimed concert master of St. Luke’s Orchestra in New York City and also of the Mostly Mozart Festival at Lincoln Center. She is a founding member of the Loma Mar Quartet, for whom Paul McCartney has written new works, recorded by EMI and titled “Working Classical.” She is a soloist with the symphonies of St. Louis, Elgin, Modesto, the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, New York String Orchestra and many others. Appel, artistic director of the Four Nations Ensemble, performs throughout Europe and the United States, taking part as soloist in many festivals including Italy’s Spoleto, and New York’s Mostly Mozart. He holds an international soloist degree from the Royal Conservatory in Antwerp and a Doctorate from the Juilliard School where he has taught harpsichord and music history. Brink, the newest member of the Four Nations Ensemble, began his flute studies with Jacob Berg and has devoted himself to 18th-century music. He has played, toured and recorded with many ensembles both in Europe and the U.S. In 2006 he founded the Grand Tour Orchestra. O’Sullivan, as a member of the Four Nations Ensemble, has appeared on the Great Performers series at Lincoln and Kennedy Centers, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, as well as the Mostly Mozart Festival. She frequently plays with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s. The program will be: Sonata VIII for violin and continuo in C, op. 9, by J.M. Leclair; Pieces de clavecin in F for solo harpsichord, by Louis Couperin; Sonata for cello and continuo by Geminiani; Locatelli’s Sonata for violin and cello in A.
