WARWICK — Warwick’s MCC Actor Training School, now in it’s 15th year, will be presenting scenes from the classic Thornton Wilder play, “Our Town,” on Saturday, April 28, at 5 p.m. and Sunday, April 29, at 7 p.m.

Performances are at the Warwick Town Hall Senior Center, free and open to the community.

“This has been a play close to my heart for a long time,” said MCC Director Donna Haley, “It has such wisdom. I’m so happy we have such excellent actors to bring it to life.”

Haley explained that the production has eliminated the narration and will focus on the characters, humor and deeper moments in the play.

“We’ve actually found it to be quite funny, so human and contemporary although written about a time when ‘connection’ meant person to person more than person to objects like iPods,” she said. “It’s ultimately about love and the continuum of life. Please join us for a relaxed evening of fun and inspiration.”

Haley added that the adult actors are involved performing in local/regional productions as well, using the school as their training and experimentation ground.

Howard Wagoner, for example, has performed with the local Shakespeare Theatre. Denise Mann and Peter Tomczak will be appearing in the upcoming Muddy Water productions in Monroe. Jeanette Farrell is also a regular in regional productions.

Another veteran of the school, Glen Mackin, will be appearing in two local upcoming productions, “The Sound of Music” and “A Few Good Men.”

“We have a rotating base group of actors in the adult class,” said Haley. “I encourage them to perform elsewhere and bring back and share with the class what they’ve learned.”

MCC Actor Training School students also travel to Manhattan regularly to see shows and keep abreast of what’s happening in the city. And they always see productions by the school’s “mother” company, MCC Theater.

The MCC Actor Training School Teen Class students are also getting ready for their own recital this month. It’s a new show, “Stranger Things have Happened,” created completely from improvisation based on the lives of characters they have invented who have dreams and visions of a better reality.
