Orchid Fascination at Black Meadow Flora

CHESTER — Orchid enthusiasts are marking their calendars for this year’s Orchid Fascination at Black Meadow Flora on Saturday and Sunday, April 26 and 27.
Back by popular demand will be a free clinic for ailing orchids. The program will also include a presentation on basic orchid care, a repotting workshop, door prizes throughout the weekend and access to the greenhouses.
Equally popular will be the excellent discounts on orchid plants, many of which are the same as those provided to the New York Botanical Garden for its gift shop during this year’s orchid show.
“It’s impossible to predict exactly how many plants we will need to be sure we have enough blooming at the right time,” said greenhouse owner Margaret C. Bridge. “It’s nice to see our customers benefit from the discounts on the extra plants still on our benches after the show.”
From experienced hobbyists to individuals hoping to find that very first orchid to love, all are welcome. Bridge, whose impulse purchase of one orchid plant in 2000 led to her career as a grower and purveyor of all kinds of orchid products from single plants to large commercial installations, will host the event.
Class sizes are limited. Pre-registration is recommended. Call 845-469-5055 to do so.
