Orange Environment to celebrate Earth Day
Warwick Orange Environment’s April 21 Earth Day festivities will open with a ceremony and tree planting, from 11:15 to 11:45 a.m., at the Warwick Middle School. The Earth Day celebration will continue at two locations, the school and the Rogowski Farm in Pine Island, and will run until 9 p.m. After the opening ceremony, the middle school will host a Global Warming Forum, including topics such as Building and Retrofitting a Green Home, Expanding Geothermal and Solar in Residences and Businesses, and Successful Greening Up Projects in Warwick Schools. A Kids’ Village will feature free activities to include face painting, seed planting , environmental story-time, and an un-nature trail walk. On display will be hybrid cars, John Lewis Stage’s Photo Exhibit, and extensive geothermal and solar literature. For-sale items will include Earth Day tee-shirts and organic food. The Rogowski Community-Supported Agricultural (CSA) Farm will host tours of its high tunnels and gardens, and provide opportunities to meet other CSA farmers in Orange County. Other activities will include cooking demonstrations featuring local produce, a farmer’s market, exhibits on solar hot water and electric systems, and Cornell Cooperative Extension Master Gardener discussions. Kids’ Village free activities will include river rock painting, learning about Alpacas, and seed identification games. The Rogowski farm will host a barn dance and buffet dinner, from 5 to 9 p.m. No reservations will be taken. The first 90 visitors will be given entry. Tickets are $12 for adults ,$5 for children.
