Montgomery — The Orange County Firefighters Museum has received absolute charter status from the board of regents on behalf of the education department of the State of New York. The museum was granted provisional charter status on March 13, 1996, which was extended on Feb. 12, 2002. Absolute charter status was granted on Sept. 13, 2011. “We are grateful to the State of New York Board of Regents for recognizing our museum and education center and for granting us absolute charter status,” said Ed Devitt, president of the Orange County Firefighters Museum. An absolute charter is granted to museums and historical societies that meet the organizational and educational standards established by the Regents, which measures the progress made by a museum or historical society during the term of its provisional charter. If an organization has a record of financial stability and providing good programs, and a well-founded reputation for excellence, it usually succeeds in meeting the requirements of registration. The museum is located at 141 Clinton St. in the Village of Montgomery. The museum will be closed for the months of January and February. If you are interested in attending during these months, call Marybeth Majestic at 845-457-9666 to schedule a visit. For more information visit www.ocfm.us or e-mail ocfmny@gmail.com.
