Orange County Arts Council accepting nominations for annual art awards


SUGAR LOAF — The Orange County Arts Council is now accepting nominations for the 2014 annual art awards to be presented at the 7th Orange County Arts Awards Celebration on Friday, Nov. 15.
The Art Awards proudly recognize individuals, organizations, and corporations which have made outstanding contributions to the arts in our county. Past recipients of this celebrated award have included individual artists, art patrons, volunteers, nonprofit cultural organizations and corporate patrons, including Dick Polich of Polich-Tallix Foundry, David Collens from Storm King Art Center, the Wallkill River School of Art in Montgomery, photographer Nick Zungoli, Woomyung Choe of the Greater Newburgh Symphony Orchestra, and Orange and Rockland Utilities to name just a few.
The categories for nomination are Individual Artist, Arts Organization, Arts in Education, Champion of the Arts, Arts and Healthcare Champion, Corporate Champion of the Arts, Salute to Veterans, Youth with Exceptional Promise and Lifetime Achievement. Last year’s honorees were:
Individual Artist: Francesco Mastalia
Arts Organization: Newburgh Chamber Music
Arts in Education: Christopher Tucci, Goshen Central High School
Champion of the Arts: Dan Chester, Hudson Valley Performing Arts Foundation
Corporate Champion of the Arts: Paul Deckaj, Noble Coffee Roasters
Arts in Healthcare Champion: Nancy Reed Jones
Salute to Veterans: Robert Demetry
Youth with Exceptional Promise: Carly Ryan, Middletown High School
Lifetime Achievement: Gene Bove
Any interested individual is eligible to submit a nomination. Those eligible to be nominated must currently reside or work in Orange County for more than one year and may include individual visual, literary and performing artists of all artistic disciplines, Arts administrators and staff, professional artists, volunteers, stagecraft professionals, practitioners and technicians, non-profit or for-profit organizations and businesses, arts donors, patrons and community supporters.
Nomination forms may be found on the Orange County Arts Council Web site, www.ocartscouncil.org, by emailing jen@ocartscouncil.org or calling the Arts Council at 845-469-9168. An outside selection panel will meet in June to review all nominations and determine the final list of honorees.
