New Windsor — Occupations, Inc. is hosting an open house featuring a “Creative Expressions” art exhibit on Wednesday, May 16, at its 67 Windsor Highway location in New Windsor. The Creative Expressions art exhibit began in 2004 in observance of May as Mental Health Month and has evolved to feature artists promoting mental health wellness. Whether it is a hobby or a professional, expressing one’s self through art is often a helpful method of rehabilitation and recovery. One artist who is participating again at this year’s exhibit said: “I have chosen to participate in this art exhibit for the third time to help communicate how art is uplifting and life giving. It can draw you into life with its beauty and bring you to a place other than the place you’re in. Out of my struggles, I found an art form arranging pressed flowers, which has brought me joy and helped me focus and organize my thoughts.” The exhibit showcases an array of media, from fine art and sculpture to pottery, woodworking and other fine crafts. Information will be available on mental health treatment, wellness and recovery, and also on the various programs and services offered by Occupations Inc. Light hors d’oeuvres will be served and many of the artists will be present. Parents, guardians, family members and friends are invited to attend the open house and exhibit, from 4 to 7 p.m. Call 692-4454 ext. 101 for more information or visit www.occupations.org.
