Newburgh Free Library hosts lecture

Newburgh The Newburgh Free Library, the Newburgh Historical Society and the Newburgh City Historian will host Pulitzer Prize-winning author Joe Ritz, author of “The Despised Poor: Newburgh’s War on Welfare,” at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 1. Ritz, a former reporter for The Newburgh Evening News who covered city government, will discuss the City’s 1960s welfare plan, his experiences with local editors and some personal accounts of his life. The event will be held in the Newburgh Free Library Auditorium at 124 Grand Street. Admission is free, but registration is suggested.
