Warwick — The Village of Warwick Merchants Guild will soon present its annual seasonal open house, Home For The Holidays. What better way to connect with Warwick then with a signed copy of the newly released book, “People of the Valleys Revisited: A History of Warwick 1700-2005?” The saga identifies those individuals and institutions that have made Warwick the exciting and dynamic community that it is today. A limited printing of this book will be available at The Bookstore, who will celebrate its release by hosting author Richard Hull for a booksigning between 12:30 and 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 20. “Our town is an amazing success story in community-building and civic spirit which has become the envy and model for communities throughout the Hudson Valley,” said Hull. “This book is not only for the old-timers in town but for the newcomers seeking some perspective and sense of place and identity in their new home.” The book is dedicated to the Warwick Historical Society as it approaches its 100th anniversary. With a sharp eye, Hull looks at Warwick schools, government, religious and cultural institutions, natural and human resources, and business enterprises to catch the essence and magic of the fascinating process in community building. He asserts this is a triumphal story, and one for which this and past generations can be very proud. Nevertheless, he cautions that setbacks have been suffered, and that by studying the past, Warwickians can better understand current problems to plan for the future. Michael McDermott, owner of The Bookstore, adds, “Although ‘People of the Valleys Revisited’ has been unavailable for a number of years, the history of Warwick continues to be one of our most requested titles, and this biography will be a great holiday gift for many people.” Hull, a long-time Warwick resident, has been a professor in New York University’s history department for 37-years, and the author of four previous books. He holds a doctorate and two master’s degrees from Columbia University, and was recently given the Orange County Revered Citizen Award for distinguished service to the county. The Bookstore is located at 20 Main St. in Warwick. For more information, call 986-8880 or email notes@warwick.net.
