FLORIDA — Interested in a musical adventure? Do you love to listen to virtuoso recording artists who can’t be pinned down to a genre?

If so, you won’t want to miss the next Hudson Valley Singer/Songwriter Showcase at Temple Beth Shalom, in Florida. It begins at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 31. Monroe composer and pianist Charlie Lang (www.charlielang.com) will open the show.

He’ll be followed by Prester John, a duo from New Haven, Conn. (www.persingermusic.com).

Lang’s soulful voice, poignant lyrics and nimble piano playing send a shiver up the listener’s spine. His piano playing and composing have been compared to Billy Joel, his singing might remind you a bit of Sting at one moment, James Taylor at the next, but really Lang is an original who can only be experienced, not described.

He has recorded three albums: “Walking Through portraits” “Turn The Music On” and “Free.”

Prester John is guitarist Shawn Persinger and mandolinist David Miller. They offer a unique blend of acoustic folk, jazz, pop, classical, bluegrass, humor and the avant-garde.

Persinger is the songwriter. His quick and surprising wit is mirrored by his lightning-fast and laser-accurate guitar work.

And Miller is right there with him with spot-on harmonies on vocals as well as mandolin. The duo’s most recent albums include “Desire for a Straight Line” and “Rise O’ Faint-hearted Girls."

Temple Beth Shalom is located at 13 Roosevelt Ave. Florida.

The door opens at 7:45 p.m. Admission is $15 at the door. Proceeds will benefit the artistt and Temple Beth Shalom.
