Music Under The Stars' wishes Happy Birthday, USA
West Point - The United States Military Academy Concert Band, under the direction of Lt. Col. Timothy Holtan, will present its annual Independence Day Concert at 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 2, in the Trophy Point Amphitheatre at West Point. In the event of rain, the concert will be held on Monday, July 3. The concert will include patriotic music and Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, with cannon and fireworks. The concert will open with “The Fort McHenry Suite” by Julie Giroux. The piece is a three-movement work, with each movement based around text from the verses of the national anthem, “The Star Spangled Banner.” Sgt. 1st Class Tom Price will perform Herbert L. Clarke’s “Bride of the Waves” for solo tuba and band, in his final performance after a 20-year career with the Academy Band. The concert will close with the playing of Pytor Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture.” The band will be joined at the finale of the piece by a battery of cannon and a special fireworks display.
