West Point — The West Point Concert Band will continue its Music Under the Stars series at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 28 at the military academy’s Trophy Point Amphitheatre. Titled “Something Old, New, Borrowed and Blue,” this program features wedding favorites and much more as it takes listeners from the prelude through the processional, interlude, recessional, and reception. Captain Dae Kim will lead the concert band in traditional selections such as “Hornpipe” from Handel’s Water Music, “La Rejouissance” from Music for the Royal Fireworks, and “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring.” Several chamber groups will also be featured as the Highlands Brass performs Pachelbel’s “Canon” and the West Point Saxophone Quartet performs Handel’s “Entrance of the Queen of Sheba.” The “blue” portion of the evening will be the renowned “Blue Danube Waltz” by Johann Strauss, Jr. For something new, Sergeant First Class Craig Bitterman will perform a steel drum solo with the band titled “Panhandlin’” by Andy Narell. The program will close with dance music by Ira Gershwin, “Someone to Watch Over Me” and “They Can’t Take That Away from Me” sung by Master Sergeant Marykay Messenger. The concert is free and open to the public. The West Point Band supports Army Community Service’s effort to collect food for the Food Band of the Hudson Valley.
