Music teachers to play in recital
Central Valley The Hudson-Catskill District of the New York State Music Teachers’ Association is presenting a recital on Sunday, Nov. 11, at 3 p.m. at the Central Valley Methodist Church, 12 Smith Clove Road, Central Valley. There is no admission fee, but there will be a donation basket for those wishing to give to the scholarship fund. The public is invited. The recital will feature a varied classical recital of instrumental and vocal solos and ensemble music by music teachers of the Hudson-Catskill District, including the counties of Orange, Ulster, Sullivan, and Dutchess. The recital aims to raise awareness of the the New York Music Teachers’ Association while raising money for its scholarship fund. The association awards scholarships annually to several outstanding young musicians to encourage them in furthering their musical education. Performers in the recital will be: organist: Janet Nelson-Nickerson; duo-pianists: Florence Grenis and Sylvia Furash, Jean MacDonald and Paula Bresnan, Marjorie Schempf, and Margaret Small. Solo-pianists will be: Martha Braden, Janice Nimetz, Marjorie Schempf, Margaret Small. Eight hands on two pianos will perform Schubert’s Marche Militaire. Op. 51. Also, Abby Mayer will play Saint-Saens’ “Romanze” on the French horn, with Florence Grenis at the piano.
