Music in Central Valley opens Dec. 2 with a program for clarinet and piano


CENTRAL VALLEY — Music in Central Valley opens its 2018-2019 Season on Sunday, Dec. 2, with Music for Clarinet and Piano by American Composers performed by clarinetist Enid Blount Press and pianist Laurel Larsen.
Their program will include the "Rhapsody in Blue" by George Gershwin arranged for clarinet and piano by Frédéric Cellier, the "Clarinet Concerto" by Aaron Copland and "In Slow Blues Tempo from Excursions, Op. 20,"by Samuel Barber.
Enid Blount PressBlount Press enjoys a diverse performing and teaching career in the New York area. She has appeared at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and Merkin Hall in addition to several venues in Europe.
She is a founding member and clarinetist/bass clarinetist of the progressive rock group, Angels in the Chamber.
Laurel LarsenLarsen is Assistant Professor of Music at Western Connecticut State University. A graduate of Oberlin Conservatory of Music, she received her Master of Music degree in piano performance from the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University and her doctorate in piano pedagogy from the University of South Carolina.
She has served as a collaborative pianist at Oberlin, where she and Blount Press first performed together, the Performing Arts Institute of Pennsylvania, Newberry College, and the University of South Carolina.

Sunday, Feb. 24: Passion, Fantasy, Memory: Music for Solo and Duo Piano.
Sunday, March 24: Guitarists Jonathan Trotta and Ansel Bebrow perform works for Solo and Duo Guitar.
Sunday, April 26: Music for Cello, a concert presented by a young cellist from The Juilliard School, Eliana Razzino Yang.
EssentialsAll programs take place on Sunday at Central Valley United Methodist Church, 12 Smith Clove Road, and begin at 3 p.m.
