Museum Village to host 42nd anniversary Civil War Re-enactment

MONROE — "Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal." So proclaimed President Abraham Lincoln on Nov. 19, 1863.
On Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 2 and 3, Museum Village will come alive with the re-enactment of one of the most critical times in American history - The Civil War.
• Pay attention as President Lincoln delivers the Gettysburg Address.
• Listen to Harriet Tubman and learn her story.
• Talk to General Grant on his perspective of the war.
• Understand how this critical period of the nation's growth affects Americans still today.
You will be whisked back in time to 1863 right in the middle of the Civil War. Meander through the camps and observe the lifestyle of the time. Inspect the weapons they needed to survive and get a glimpse of the food they ate. Pay attention to the demonstrations of standard Civil War tactics, troop movements and life in general. Check out the Sutlers, who were the merchants that provided goods to the soldiers, as they sell their 19th Century style merchandise to the public.
Visit our Changing Exhibits Building for a very rare view of a Private Collection of Civil War Artifacts. There will also be a canon demonstration, special presentations and a women's fashion show.
Essential information• Tickets are $15 for adults; $12 for seniors and $10 for children under 12 (children under four are free).
• Hours are Saturday, Sept. 2, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday, Sept. 3, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Advance tickets may be purchased on line at the Museum Village website (www.museumvillage.org).
• The snack bar and museum gift shops will also be open.
