Monroe — Steve Blumenthal, a founding member of the Wallkill River School, will teach a “Learn to Paint” class at Museum Village in Monroe. The class will be held on Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m., beginning March 18, and run for six sessions, with no class on April 15. Classes will begin indoors with still-life and florals, and move outdoors in milder weather. The focus will be on composition, color, value, technique, and the freedom for participants to develop their own personal style in any painting medium, including pastels. Classes will include demonstrations and one-on-one instruction, and finish with a class review and refreshments. The class will be limited to 12 students. All levels are welcome, ages 16 and over. The fee is $150, and registration is required. To register, call 496-8376. Blumenthal studied watercolor with Richard Ochs and Eli Rosenthal, and oil painting with Hong Nian Zhang and pastel with Shawn Dell Joyce and Anna Contes at the Woodstock School of Art. He is an active member of the Washingtonville Art Society and the Orange County Art Federation. He recently won awards for watercolor at the Orange County Day exhibit, and for pastel at a New York State competition. Along with exhibitions at the Woodstock Art Association and the Garrison Art Center, Blumenthal’s works are in many private collections. His teaching experience includes “Landscapes on Location” with Shawn Dell Joyce, an on-site “en plein air” art class, as well as an after school class at the Newburgh Jewish Community Center. Museum Village, one of New York State’s largest living history museums, is located at the corner of Route 17M and Museum Village Road.
