Museum to present art series

Cornwall The Hudson Highlands Nature Museum will begin its Evening Speakers Series with “This Perfect River View” on Thursday, Oct. 6, at 7:30 p.m., at Painter’s Tavern, Hudson Street, Cornwall-on-Hudson. This illustrated lecture by Dr. Trudie A. Grace will focus on forty paintings that depict the beauty of the Hudson Highlands from its southern gate to its northern. These works by painters of the Hudson River School and their contemporaries are either unknown to the public or have rarely been seen. Grace is the curator of the Putnam County Historical Society and Foundry School Museum and an Adjunct Assistant Professor of art history at the Fashion Institute of Technology, in New York City. Join Dr. William S.F. Schuster as he describes key ecological changes that have occurred in our oak forests and how it will affect our future. Thursday, Oct. 18, 7:30 p.m. n Lecture: Working in and for Nature: Stories from the Past: Hudson Highlands Nature Museum Evening Speakers Series presented at Painter’s Tavern, Hudson Street, Cornwall-on-Hudson. Join Science historian, Sara Tjossem as she relates two stories from Ecological Society of America history, which suggests the possible tension between those who wanted to develop science separate from social and political issues and advocates of social activism. Thursday, Oct. 25, 7:30 p.m. n Lecture: Creating a Sustainable Future for the Hudson Valley: Hudson Highlands Nature Museum Evening Speakers Series presented at Painter’s Tavern, Hudson Street, Cornwall-on-Hudson. Join Dr. Michael Edelstein as he outlines the paths for a sustainable future as a win-win scenario for our communities and the region.Thursday, Nov. 1, 7:30 p.m. n Lecture: Caring for Injured and Orphaned Wild Birds: Tales from the Front Lines. Join Wildlife Rehabilitator, Suzie Gilbert as she presents a slide show and discusses how to care for all kinds of birds.
