Museum to hold American Heritage Festival

Cornwall The American Heritage Festival, a celebration of our history for adults and children, will be held on Saturday, Sept. 30, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Museum of the Hudson Highlands’ Kenridge Farm location, Route 9W in Cornwall. On the lawn and back pastures of this 19th-century farm, visitors can step back to colonial times and watch traditional craftspeople at work--including a blacksmith, spinners, potters, an organ grinder, and even a sheepherder. Children may try their hand at crafts such as candle dipping, quill-pen writing, and cornhusk-doll making. The Revolutionary War encampment, which recreates the life of the colonial soldier, is where visitors may take part in their musket drills. Hayrides will be available, along with a chance to churn butter. While the young ones learn about animals at the 4-H exhibit, adults can explore the crafters’ village where fine hand made items are on display. The grounds and trails will be open for those who wish to enjoy a peaceful walk, and local environmental groups will share their vision of a safe and healthy Hudson Valley. Admission $7 per person; members $5. This includes parking and all activities. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Volunteers play an essential role in creating and presenting the Festival. For information about volunteering at the Festival, call 534-5506 ext. 202.
