Cornwall — The American Heritage Festival, a joyful celebration of the nation’s history, will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30, at the Museum of the Hudson Highlands’ Kenridge Farm on Route 9W in Cornwall. On the lawn and back pastures of this 19th-century farm, both adults and children will be able to step back to colonial times as they watch traditional crafts people at work, including a blacksmith, spinners, potters, organ grinder and even horses. Children may try their hand at crafts such as candle dipping, quill pen writing, and corn-husk doll making. Visitors can watch the Revolutionary War encampment, which recreates the life of the colonial soldier, and take part in the musket drills. Native American dancers will perform, along with musicians and storytellers. Hay rides will be available, along with a chance to churn butter. While the young ones can learn about animals at the 4-H exhibit, adults can explore the crafters’ village, where fine quality and affordable hand made items will be on display. The grounds and trails will be open for those who wish to enjoy a peaceful walk, and local environmental groups will be on hand to share their vision of a safe and healthy Hudson Valley. Admission is $7 per person, or $5 for members, which includes parking and all activities. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Volunteers play an essential role in creating and presenting the festival. To volunteer, call 534-5506 ext. 202.
