Museum presents an evening on Hudson River School paintings

Cornwall-on-Hudson Join the Hudson Highlands Nature Museum on Thursday, Oct. 6, at 7:30 p.m. at Painter’s Tavern, Hudson St., Cornwall-on-Hudson, for its evening speakers series: This Perfect River-View. This illustrated lecture, by Dr. Trudie A. Grace, will focus on forty paintings that depict the beauty of the Hudson Highlands from its southern gate to its northern. These works by painters of the Hudson River School and their contemporaries are either unknown to the public or have rarely been seen. Dr. Grace is the curator of the Putnam County Historical Society and Foundry School Museum and an adjunct assistant professor of Art History at the Fashion Institute of Technology, in New York City. The evening speakers series has been funded in part by the New York Council for the Humanities, a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. All evening speakers series events take place on Thursdays, at 7:30 p.m. at Painter’s Tavern, Hudson St., Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y. Limited seating; general admission is $7; museum members are $4. Join science historian Sara Tjossem as she relates two stories from Ecological Society of America history, which suggests the possible tension between those who wanted to develop science separate from social and political issues and advocates of social activism. Thursday, Oct. 25, at 7:30 p.m. n Lecture: Creating a Sustainable Future for the Hudson Valley. Join Dr. Michael Edelstein as he outlines the paths for a sustainable future as a win-win scenario for communities and the region. Thursday, Nov. 1, at 7:30 p.m. n Lecture: Caring for Injured and Orphaned Wild Birds: Tales from the Front Lines. Join wildlife rehabilitator Suzie Gilbert as she presents a slide show and discusses how to care for all kinds of birds. Hear about her experiences.
