Museum presents Aggregates' by Lisa Zukowski

Newburgh The Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum in Newburgh will be exhibiting “Aggregates,” paintings and mixed-media by Warwick artist Lisa Zukowski, from Saturday, April 1, to Monday, April 30. A reception of the artist’s work will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 9. Zukowski fuses the representational, symbolic, and abstract, in suggestive images based on observations from her recent travels in Italy. Beginning as records of markings on ancient walls, her works convey the artist’s personal response to the cumulative weight of time. Defining her inspiration as “the sacredness of the internal and external landscape,” she reflects a sense of the psychological impact of their presence. Zukowski holds a degree in painting and printmaking from Brooklyn College, where she served as printer for the college press’s Women’s Portfolio and Creation Portfolio, and she has worked as a graphic artist for national and international companies. Twice the recipient of the Bernard Shaw Memorial Award for Painting, she has also received the Brooklyn College Press Printmaking Award and the 2001 Peter Rahill Memorial Award in Graphics. The artist holds printmaking workshops in this country and Italy, and currently serves as president of the Warwick Art League. Her work is in many collections throughout the country, and abroad. It may be seen at The ARTery Fine Art and Fine Craft Gallery in Milford, Pa., and online at www.lisaz.com. The museum is located at 94 Broadway in Newburgh. The Karpeles Museums are a national chain, with ten in the U.S., specializing in the preservation and display of original, historically significant documents and manuscripts. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Saturday, and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is always free.
