Museum of the Hudson HighlandS hosts painting event

Join the Museum of the Hudson Highlands, Wednesday, October 13 at 7:30pm at Painter's Tavern, Hudson Street, Cornwall-on-Hudson, for their Fall Evening Speakers Series lecture: Managing the Hudson River Estuary: How the Hudson River Painters, Revolutionary War and Storm King Power Plant Case All Led to How We Do Things Today to Protect the Hudson. This evening's speaker, Frances F. Dunwell, manages the Hudson River Estuary Program for New Yor State and is the author of The Hudson River Highlands. Her talk will trace the evolution of current programs to protect the river to the history of ideas about the Hudson and ideas about nature. The Evening Speakers Series is funded in part by The New York Council for the Humanities, a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Future Evening Speakers Series lectures include: October 20 - The Poet Speaks of Rivers: The Hudson as American Literary Landscape. Dr. Geoffrey L. Brackett, Associate Professor of English at Pace University, will speak on the poetic representations of the Hudson River from the early settlement through the 20th century. October 27 - Bringing the Hudson River Back to Life: Environmental Issues over 400 Years. Peter G. Stillman, Professor of Political Science and Director of the Program in Environmental Studies at Vassar College, throws light on contemporary environmental problems and promises by looking at selected environmental issues in the history of the Hudson River.
