Museum of the Hudson Highlands celebrates Earth Day

Cornwall-on-Hudson The Museum of the Hudson Highlands will celebrate our planet with a weekend of earthly activities sponsored by Taylor Recycling. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, and Sunday, April 23, at the museum’s Boulevard location in Cornwall-on-Hudson. The theme is: “We only have one earth; learn how to protect it.” Participants can make crafts from recycled products, take a guided trail hike, and explore the biodiversity of the earth by visiting live animals. Don’t wait for Earth Day to save our earth Conserve water - Turn off the water faucet as you brush your teeth, water the lawn at dawn or dusk to reduce evaporation, repair leaks promptly. Reduce waste - Purchase products in recyclable containers, donate used clothing and appliances to local organizations, start a compost area for yard and kitchen waste. Choose green - Use energy products (especially light bulbs), only purchase wood produced in well managed forests, buy chocolate and coffee from rainforest friendly companies. Cleaning up the Hudson The Great Hudson River Sweep will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 29. Thousands are expected, all along the Hudson, to pitch in and keep it clean. Local groups often use this event to work towards badges and awards. The event for Cornwall is being coordinated by: Museum of the Hudson Highlands, Black Rock Forest, and Cornwall Central School District. People should meet at Cornwall Landing with work gloves and sturdy shoes, and bring lunch and a hand sanitizer. Registration is required so that organizers can prepare for the assistance.
