Mount Saint Mary College to celebrate Dominican heritage
NEWBURGH - Starting Saturday, Sept. 30, Mount Saint Mary College will present Dominican Heritage Week to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the Dominican Order and honor the Dominican Sisters who founded the college in 1959. Several activities are free and open to the public. Sr. Peggy Murphy, O.P.. assistant professor of religious studies, will conduct Dominican heritage walks at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, and Wednesday, Oct. 4, beginning at Whittaker Hall. She will trace the places that mark the Dominican heritage on campus, including Founders Chapel whose stained glass windows depict Dominican saints. The Division of Philosophy and Religious Studies will sponsor panel presentations about “Truth in the 21st Century,” at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, in the science lecture hall in Aquinas Hall. Sr. Catherine Walsh, O.P., Mount professor of communication arts, will discuss “Truth in Advertising;” Michele Winchester-Vega, Ph.D., assistant professor of social work at Yeshiva University; Dave Rant, Ph.D., Mount assistant professor of business, will discuss “Truth in Business Practices;” Eileen Casey-Leek, former superintendent of schools for the Monticello school district, will discuss “Truth in Education;” and Dr. Demetrio A.
