Goshen — There are at least 65 great reasons in the cast, and dozens more behind the scenes, to attend the Goshen High Music Department’s presentation of “42nd Street.” The musical will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, March 24 and 25, and at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, March 25 and 26, in the high school auditorium at 222 Scotchtown Ave in Goshen. The musical is based on the book by Michael Stewart and Mark Bramble, with music by Harry Warren and lyrics by Al Dubin. It is being brought to life in Goshen under the direction of Lori Horaz, with assistance from Molly Lloyd, Ruth Hulbert and Hugh Mackay, and choreographed by Ronda Barber. Over 10 percent of the Goshen’s high school population have chosen to spend up to four hours a day, and even seven days a week at times, to present their equivalent of the best of Broadway. “42nd Street” is a show within a show. Young, wide-eyed Peggy Sawyer (brought to life by senior Emily Lloyd) tries to get her big break in show business. She is wooed by romantic lead Billy Lawlor (played by junior Patrick O’Hern). Along the way, she has to deal with aging stage star Dorothy Brock, well past her prime (performed by senior Lauren Liria), who coincidentally is married to the prime backer Julian Marsh (played by junior Cody Hayden), who gave Dorothy the lead in his new show “Pretty Lady.” The usual hi-jinks ensue. Recognizable tunes such as “Shuffle Off to Buffalo,” “We’re in the Money,” “Lullaby of Broadway,” and “42nd Street” are just a few of the musical numbers. Tickets are $12 for all performances. Tickets ordered after March 10 will be held at the door. To make reservations, send in the order form, available by calling 294-2430 or 294-2465, or downloading from www.goshenschoolsny.org and mailing to: Goshen High School, 120 Scotchtown Ave, Goshen NY 10924.
