Monroe - There's something for everyone at the Monroe Free Library in the month of October. The library at 44 Millpond Parkway is offering a variety of exciting adult programming. Looking to change jobs? Unsure of the direction you want to take in your work? Come to the Career Night Seminar, on Tuesday, Oct. 5, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Register at the Monroe Free Library, 44 Millpond Parkway, Monroe. Travel to unique places with the Monroe Free Library. On Wednesday, Oct. 13, spend the day at the house of Mark Twain, America's most beloved humorist. This 19-room Victorian mansion in Hartford, Conn., was decorated by Tiffany. Though associated with the American South, Mark Twain wrote classics such as Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn while living in this beautiful home. Included in the $42 ticket are the luxury coach bus ride, lunch, tour and museum admission. Tickets are on sale now at the Monroe Free Library. For more information, please call 783-4411. Check out your health as well as a book at the Blood Screening Program on Monday, Oct. 18. Walk in anytime between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Have your blood tested for cholesterol levels, glucose level and a blood pressure reading. This free screening is provided by the health care professionals of Good Samaritan Hospital. Stretch your muscles as well as your mind in Yoga Class on Monday, Oct. 18, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the Monroe Free Library. The fee is $5 and the instructor is Laura Franklin. Registration required. The latest book in the series of Scholar Led Book Discussions is "Grapes of Wrath" by John Steinbeck on Monday, Oct. 25 at 7:30 to 9 p.m. This moving story of the Dust Bowl Okies flight to California is a 20th century American classic. Enjoy a spirited conversation with fellow readers, led by Keith Walters, a scholar and professor at Lehman College and Rockland Community College. Future titles in the series of Scholar Led Book Discussions are: "The Awakening" by Kate Chopin on Dec. 6; "My Antonia" by Willa Cather on March 21, and "House of Mirth" by Edith Wharton on May 2. Copies of each book will be available at the library in plenty of time to read before the discussion. Enjoy the delicious goosebumps raised by some good ghost stories on Wednesday, Oct. 27, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Monroe Free Library. Fans of the frightening from age 10 and up are welcome. Registration required. Sample tasty treats and beverages at the Wine and Dessert Tasting on Friday, Oct. 29, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the library. The fare is courtesy of Star Liquors. There is a fee.
