    MONROE - Friends of the Library meet at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 2 . The Friends of the Monroe Free Library invite you to join them at their next meeting. Their goals: make a difference in our community, influence the future development of our library, meet friends with similar interests and concerns, organize fundraising events and stimulate the use of the library through special programs. Start the coming school year right with smoother family interactions. Presented by Cornell Cooperative Extension for parents of children from birth to 10 years old. Cost for the series of four sessions is $30 per family. Bus Trip: Mohonk Mountain House: Wednesday, September 20 Enjoy a tour of the premier resort renown for its spectacular views and luxurious appointments since Victorian times. Stede Bonnet’s Seashell Bucket - Tuesday, August 1, 3:00 p.m. - Decorate a handy container for your beach treasures as you hear about the intriguing Stede Bonnet, gentleman pirate. Kindergarten and Grade 1. Anne Bonny’s Keepsake Box - Thursday,  August 3, 3:00 p.m. - Make a beautiful container for your treasures while hearing about Anne Bonny, one of the real life female pirates. Grades 2 & up. Captain Morgan’s Treasure Map at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 8. Make your own guide to hidden treasure while enjoying stories of Captain Morgan, historic pirate. Kindergarten and Grade 1. Captain Tew Magnetic Box at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 10. Design a cool tin to hold magnetic words you can use on the fridge and hear fearsome true tales of Captain Tew, buccaneer. Grades 2 & up. Preschool Walk-in Story time: August 1, August 3 & August 8 Children aged two years and those three and four year olds who need a parent in the room will meet from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Three year olds and older, who can come in the story room without a parent, meet from 11:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Parent must remain within the library. No registration is required. Face painting by teen volunteers follows each meeting. Summer story time ends with a cupcake party on Thursday, August 10, which includes a visit from a cartoon character. Backlot Movie Nights at 8:45 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 4. Enjoy an outdoor screening of exciting action movies for the older grade school age child and teens. Weather permitting. Meet in the staff parking lot behind the building. Cupcake Party Thursday, Aug. 10 Summer story time for preschoolers ends with a fun party which includes a visit from a beloved cartoon character. Party for children from two to four years old who meet with parents in the room is from 10:30 - 11:00 a.m. Party for ages three years old and up who meet without a parent is from 11:15 to 11:45 a.m. For both parties, a parent must remain in the library. American Girl Doll Tea at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 11. A week of fun activities based on the popular series of historical novels, will follow the always-a-sellout Mother, Daughter & Doll Tea. New this year: enjoy meeting real life American Girls characters in costume, delicious snacks and a fun floral headpiece craft all under an elegant tent outdoors. No rain date. Registration begins July 23. Ending Party & Uncle Rock Concert at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 12 .Free tickets to the party at the library given to children who finish the Summer Reading Program and their families. Outdoor fun & surprises. Raffle prize winners will be announced. American Girl Magic Bracelet Craft 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 15. Make a cute bracelet to accessorize your wardrobe Part of American Girl Week, a celebration of the popular series of historical fiction. Grades K & one American Girl Ribbon Hanger Craft at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 17. An elegant padded hanger that you make yourself will add grace to your closet.
