    Monroe - The following is a list of upcoming programs and events at the Monroe Free Library, located at 44 Millpond Parkway in Monroe. Adult events • Friends of the Library: Wednesday, Oct. 4, 8: p.m. The Friends of the Monroe Free Library invite you to join them at their next meeting. Their goals are to make a difference in our community, influence the future development of our library, meet friends with similar interests and concerns, organize fund-raising events and stimulate the use of the library through special programs. At the Monroe library. • Board of Trustees Meeting: Monday, Oct. 16, 8 p.m. The Board of Trustees for the Monroe Free Library will hold its monthly meeting. The public is welcome. • Blood Pressure Screening: Monday, Oct. 16, 10 a.m. to noon. Professionals from Bon Secours Hospital will measure this vital sign of health. Register. • Woodworkers Guild Demonstration: Wednesday, Oct. 18, 7 p.m. See exciting examples of the arts of woodworking and carving by the artisans of the Orange County Woodworkers Guild. Register. • Book Discussion: In Cold Blood: Monday, Oct. 23, 7:30 p.m. The first true crime story, and still one of the best, blazes on the pages more brightly than any novel. This popular and lively book group led by Keith Walters finds new insight in an informal style. Register. • Ghost Story Night: Tuesday, Oct. 24, 7:30 p.m. Real-life local ghost buster Linda Zimmermann tells tales guaranteed to raise goose bumps. Register. • Bermuda cruise tickets on sale now. Relax on a voyage to one of the most beloved vacation spots. Sail on the Celebrity Zenith in a Category Four outside cabin. Leave Port Liberty, N.J., on June 9 and return on June 16. Children’s events • Saturday Walk-In StoryTime: Oct. 7, 14 and 21, 11:00-11:30 a.m. No registration is needed for this program of books and songs. Stories are chosen for children ages two to five years, but all ages are welcome. A parent must remain in the room with the child. • Legend of Sleepy Hollow Puppet Show: Thursday, Oct. 19, 6:30-7:15 p.m. The Puppet People return with a thrilling, comic rendition of Washington Irving’s haunting tale set in our area. Life-sized puppets, colorful sets and lively music bring joy to children in first grade and up. Register starting Oct. 2. • After School Crafts: Tuesday, Oct. 17, 4:30 p.m. Make a fun Halloween memento. For children in Kindergarten and First Grade. Register. • Preschool Storytime Registration: Monday, Oct. 23, Tuesday, Oct. 31. Introduce your child to the joy of reading, as well as a great opportunity to practice social skills with peers. Sessions are available for age two years to young three year olds, with a parent remaining in the story room; and for three to five year olds with the adult remaining in the library. Child must be specified age for program by Sunday, Oct. 22, 2006. Monroe patrons given first consideration. Birth certificate required for new participants. Parents must stay in room with two year olds; must remain in library for older children. Register at the library. Classes will begin on Nov. 6. • After School Crafts: Tuesday, Oct. 24, 4:30 p.m. A creepy craft for Halloween. For children in second grade and up. Register. • Haunted Library: Friday, Oct. 27, 6-7:30 p.m. Wear your costume to visit a creepy library like you’ve never seen before - if you dare! Lots of scary scenes and fun photo ops. For Halloweeners in grade one and up. No registration needed. • Scary Backlot Movie Night: Saturday, Oct. 28, 6 p.m. We’re not allowed to name this very popular movie in print, but you’ll enjoy Michael Keaton in this unforgettable role.
