May ‘day trips' offer lots to do

    In May, a variety activities offer area residents fun day trip opportunities within the Hudson Valley. At Thomas Bull Memorial Park in Mntgomery, 34,000 tulip bulbs are expected to burst into bloom the first week of May. Stroll the colorful gardens on your way to the Centennial Antique Festival in downtown Port Jervis on May 4. The Antique and Custom Car Cruise at Bear Mountain State Park will host its first drive-in on May 7, and every Wednesday summer evening, weather-permitting. On Mother’s Day, treat mom to a beautiful hand-made glass treasure at a special glass-blowing demonstration at the historic Gillinder Glass Factory on May 10. Kids of all ages will enjoy the flying kites event at Storm King Art Center’s 500-acre outdoor sculpture park on May 17. Woodbury Common Premium Outlet will offer a Memorial Day Sidewalk Sale, taking place May 23 to 26. For the kids, put on hiking boots for “Foraging at the Fort” on May 25, where guides from the Fort Montgomery State Historic Site will show how soldiers and Native Americans used local fauna for food and medicine.
