MARLBORO — Glorie Farm Winery of Marlboro announced that they are seeking artwork from artists living in and around the Hudson Valley Region, from Albany to New York City, with the winning work to be placed on the label of the new special edition 2006 Glorie Jumpin’ Jazz Wine, planned for release in July 2007. The original artwork will be auctioned through a silent auction, with all proceeds from the auction going to the Animal Rescue Foundation to promote homeless animal adoptions. Prizes for the winning artist include half of the entry fees from the contest, a case of the labeled wine and more. Winery owners Doug and MaryEllen Glorie wanted to do something to help the community and obtain an outstanding label for their new wine. According to MaryEllen, “we figured that by combining art and wine for a good cause we would be able to achieve our goals. This new wine promises to be excellent, and we want to match it with a new, creative label. Why not let artists take a shot at it, get great recognition for their work, and help a good cause, too?” Jumpin’ Jazz is a name Doug and MaryEllen hope will inspire a variety of interpretations from Hudson Valley artists. More inspiration can be found at Glorie Farm Winery where artists can walk the vineyards, meet the owners, and take in the view of the Hudson Valley. The Glories looked at different art contests and noticed that the proceeds from these contests often don’t make a contribution to the community. So they selected a charity to donate the art auction proceeds to: the Animal Rescue Foundation, a no-kill, non-profit, all-volunteer animal shelter whose mission is “to find loving, forever homes for homeless animals.” Doug has some definite views on the special edition Jumpin’ Jazz. “The wine promises to cause quite a stir. We’re excited about the potential of this wine because it should appeal to a range of wine drinkers—from people who are very particular about their wine choices to folks who don’t know a Seyval Blanc from a Cabernet Franc. It will taste great, and it’ll be fun! The label must reflect that.” The entry fee for the contest is $10 and one submission per artist is allowed. Complete submission guidelines, rules, and the entry form are available at www.gloriewine.com. The deadline to receive submissions is 5 p.m. Dec. 17.
